We are working towards retirement. I don't say that lightly, there has been quite a bit of planning attributed to this event! One of the topics we have researched is minimalism. While I have found sites touting "minimalism in 30 days," I must admit it is taking us a bit longer. One of the Web sites I like most is www.becomingminimalist.com. Joshua Becker provides the following audio introduction to minimalism.

It all began three years ago. We went through every cabinet, closet, and box and were quite proud to reduce the amount of "stuff" we had kept throughout the years. Our parents had kept many items from childhood, of course we in turn did the same for our children. See a pattern forming?
Many of those items have now been donated, sold and thrown away. We have since discussed this process with our now adult children in hopes of starting a new trend.
